It took Comedian Chris Rock several months to respond to the toxic slap he received in front of millions of people around the world. At first, it may have seemed admirable that he was the bigger person, but what has caused him to finally speak out now?
I have no doubt that his finally speaking out had a lot to do Will Smith’s recent lame apology to Chris that he made in an interview over the internet. The interview did not seem genuine or sincere. It was overdramatic and smacked of a PR ply and spin to allow him back into the good graces of the powers that be and of the media.
WILL SMITH’S PHONY TOO LATE APOLOGY DONE FOR PR SPIN
Why would Will Smith suddenly apologize publically over half a year after he slapped Chris Rock in front of millions of people at the Oscars?
The reason is simple- PR SPIN. When he saw his one-time colleagues 3 of the greatest comedians Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, and Chris Rock on stage at Madison Square Garden using him as the brunt of a joke by calling a goat they brought stage Will Smith it was time for Smth’s PR spin team to intervene. Hence his PHONY, NON-SINCERE APOLOGY.
The first red flag was that Will read questions from his alleged fans and answered them. This is NOT how an apology is done. It is also not done 6 months later.
The first question he read was Why didn’t you apologize to Chris in your acceptance speech?
He then gives a word salad saying “I was fogged out” as he shakes his head no when he should have been shaking his head yes. First of all what does fogged out mean? The truthful answer was that he felt justified and he didn’t think his actions would have the negative repercussions it did. Also when you begin an answer with UM it’s not a good sign.
Now he starts putting the onus on Chris for not being ready to talk after Smith reached out to Chris’ people. In essence, he is making Chris wrong for not accepting his call and apology right away as he tells Chris that he will be there when Chris wants to reach out. He then apologizes to Chris’ mother and brother Tony ONLY because they called Will out in the media. What about Chris’ other siblings and family members they weren’t mentioned because they didn’t make their online footprint which will last a lifetime and disparages Will. His use of extraneous hand and arm gestures and showing the back of his hand show insincerity. When people are sincere, they don’t show the back of their hands. Once again he says remorseful words ONLY because he is not being received well after the slap.
Then he continues with more word salad saying he spends “the next three months playing the nuances and the complexities of what happened. The only nuance and complexity is that the public rebelled against his slap and he became a personal non-Grata. He then goes on to say that there was no part of him that thought that was the right way to handle a feeling of disrespect. STOP right there. He didn’t think it was so disrespectful after he laughed at the GI Jane joke and then reacted after Jada’s side-eye as you see here.
Then he LIES and says “Jada has nothing to do with it” WHAT???? He LIES as he says this as his head shakes YES when it should be shaking NO. She sure did have a lot to do with all of his actions.

CHRIS ROCK’S RESPONSE TO WILL SMITH’S SLAP
Here are Chris Rock’s exact words that he said during a performance in the UK about the infamous slap he received from Will Smith.
‘Goddam right… the motherf***er hit me over a bulls**t joke, the nicest joke I ever told.
‘Will did the impression of a perfect person for 30 years, and he ripped his mask off and showed us he was as ugly as the rest of us.
‘Whatever the consequences are… I hope he doesn’t put his mask back on again and lets his real face breathe. I see myself in both men,’ he said.
In my view, I believe Chris would not have spoken out and would have remained silent for a lot longer. But Smith’s phony apology may have set him off.
So now there is no more mystery. The “cat is out of the bag” and “the elephant in the room has been addressed ” so to speak. Will Smith has a fantasy that one day he and Chris will be friends. I am not that optimistic that it will be reciprocated on Chris’ end. I think there are some things that are unforgivable and to actually physically lay hands on another person in front of millions of people is one of those things that is unforgivable. This could have been handled off-stage, backstage, or in private. The damage is done and Will will never be accepted as he once was.
The fans have rejected him,. The executives who will hire him have rejected him and most of all his peers and former friends like Dave Chapelle and Kevin Hart have rejected him. What Smith did was open the door for others to attack a comedian or performer based on what they have said on stage.
The other thing which makes Smith’s actions unforgivable is seeing him laugh at the joke initially. Then after he saw his wife Jada’s side eye, he acted like the “big tough man” and proceeded to physically harm Chris. This wasn’t just a slap of humiliation. It was a slap that could have caused Chris to fall back, potentially hit his head, and potentially die from a brain injury as a result. While the Academy essentially forgave will by suspending him for 10 years instead of banning him for life, the rest of the world may never forgive his Toxic action.
